Who is HyPower Bristol?

HyPower Bristol is University of Bristol’s high power rocketry team. Founded as a union of our university’s rocketry skills and experience, we are working within the Bristol SEDS student society.

Our most recent step has been launching our in-house manufactured rocket at EuRoC’23 in Portugal this October.

Our pursuit for the great is twofold:

Firstly, to create a step change ‘leap’ in Bristol’s rocketry technology.

Secondly, to apply this technology to understand and protect our world.

This application of technology will be made by forging deep connections with our colleagues across the university, whose research of our environment and ecology is key to safeguarding our planet for generations to come.

For the first time, we have competed against universities across Europe to put Bristol on the rocketry map.

Our Mission

Out ultimate goal is to make a Kármán line ‘space-shot’ before 2029. This would provide the foundations and framework to support future students’ the bold and intrepid ideas.

To achieve this, we are developing our two key technologies of propulsion systems, and refined launch vehicles.

Our practical work will not only inspire school-children and university students, but further the science of rocketry.

Our team is developing a payload to answer tomorrow’s climate questions.

Our payload tests novel glacial research techniques for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles.

This technology could help us better understand the dynamics of the cryosphere and the effects of anthropogenic climate forces.

There is limited research on the relationships between spontaneous glacial lakes and iceberg calving events - HyPower Bristol plan to answer this.
